Making Money Your

Not making money as a YouTube partner? Here are some tips from YouTube itself

YouTube hosted a live event today to help partners get the most out of their YouTube revenue.

Phil Farhi of YouTube, began the event by telling partners about a few of the new initiatives that YouTube is working on, to help make partners as successful as possible. He started by bringing us through the history of advertising on YouTube.

Phil mentioned that just 3 short years ago, YouTube began using in-video and overlay ads, the first step in monetizing videos. And following the first format of ads, YouTube brought Ad Sense ads, enabling smaller advertisers/customers to get on board, allowing YouTube to capture a broader range of advertisers.

Next came in-Stream Ads (mid and pre-roll ads), a format that was launched about two years ago. YouTube said this has been popular because advertisers will pay more for ads that are similar to the format on TV. At almost the same time, promoted ads were introduced and it was proven to drive traffic to videos that were featured using the ‘promoted video’ format.

A few months ago, a new ad format for partners called TrueView was rolled-out. This format lets users watching a video skip the ad after five seconds. An ad format that YouTube says is less interruptive and doesn’t risk annoying your audience because it gives them the chance to hit stop.

Phil asked the question “ What makes a movie a successful?” Using the movie industry as an analogy, he went on to explain that there are many factors that come into play that make up the overall picture; ticket prices, seats filled, distribution etc. It’s the same with YouTube as he pointed out. Partners shouldn’t look at one aspect such as RPM (revenue per thousand page views) or CPM (cost per thousand, as an example $1 or $5 per thousand views), they should look at everything including geography.

A few points to take away

Good partners focus on overall revenue and aren’t fixated on “ticket price”. They also work hard at building a strong audience as well as trying to increase views. Good partners look at geography, RPM and CPM.

Bad partners look at the wrong metrics and don’t build up their audience. Partners who only focus on RPM might think everything is fine however, it’s critical that users concentrate on CPM as well and continue to build audience loyalty.

YouTube says advertisers are creating content that competes with user content, and millions of users are watching advertisements on the site. Think about the popularity of Superbowl ads.

Keep experimenting! Compare ad formats by type and geography and play around with different scenarios. Try enabling ads after your loyal audience has seen them or try it in reverse. Play with different recipes and see what happens when ad formats are enabled/disabled. There is a wide variety of ways to make revenue.

Take a good look at revenue break downs and compare formats; True View, in-Stream, etc.

Better reporting for ad formats coming soon. YouTube admits that partners don’t have the best reporting feature right now.

YouTube will be adding an option for partners to opt-in to just TrueView Ads without needing to be signed up with other formats.

Ensure the metadata on videos have the correct information and enough words to help YouTube’s algorithm bring the best targeted ads to your videos

The Bloomberg story cites Richard Doherty, director of the consulting firm Envisionering Group, who says that Apple has been working to embed the technology in the "next iteration of the iPhone for AT&T Inc and the iPad 2," both of which are expected to be launched this year.

It's not an unexpected move. As we have reported previously, Apple has made some strategic hires of NFC experts, and the Android already offers this functionality.

NFC Plus iTunes

What makes the Bloomberg news interesting, if true - other than the fact that the report only mentions this NFC technology in the AT&T iPhone, not a Verizon iPhone - is the way in which NFC, matched with the iTunes checkout system, could truly become a de facto payment method for many of us. Users are already incredibly familiar and comfortable with purchasing things via iTunes, and as we look to alternatives to cash, checks, and even credits cards - particularly when it comes to making payments on the go - it makes sense that Apple provides that service.

It makes sense for users and for Apple. As the Bloomberg story notes, it could help Apple cut costs associated with credit card processing fees. But it could also greatly expand the reach of the iTunes service. And according to Doherty, this is in the works for mid-2011, with plans to "revamp iTunes, a service that lets consumers buy digital movies and music, so it would hold not only users' credit-card account information but also loyalty credits and points."

So get ready to pay with your phone. Get ready to receive targeted ads and coupons with your phone. The industry has been saying that for a while. But while NFC has been touted as the future of mobile money and mobile shopping, one of the major pieces missing from implementation is the infrastructure necessary to facilitate it. And it sounds like Apple, if the Bloomberg report is true, may be working on just that very thing.

http://removeripoffreports.net - online reputation management

When suppliers or people fall prey to unfair rivals, irate ex-employees or disgruntled users, then a SERM becomes crucial in the financial survival of a corporation.

Firms like SERMs are crucial in preserving, and in some cases salvaging and restoring companies or person's status and very good title.

On the net searches are one particular in the initial important things that contemporary day consumes do prior to investing dollars with a corporation or particular person, and one bad click can necessarily mean economic disaster for any enterprise, mainly within this actually expanding cyber economy. Popularity for these SERMs are rising by leaps and bounds with the realization it is not prudent to try to conduct home business in this cyber age and not possess a SERM on retainer in addition to your accountant and your attorney.

Businesses are also appreciating the collateral advantage of getting a Status Management agency on-board as an integral a part of their company model, its awesome promoting! While securing a company's excellent popularity and title on the internet, it generates decent press and favourable publicity that finally adds drastically to your bottom line of the company's harmony sheet, producing the services to literally shell out for by itself in lots of conditions.

This tends to be an incredibly sturdy marketing position for companies at the same time as folks, to understand that they are cleansing and defending their reputations and cyber photographs, whereas at the same time working a really beneficial marketing initiative. Sometimes suppliers entirely disregard their former promoting efforts on the web and select the advantages of On the web Reputation Management.

Possessing a SERM agency in your side is while not a doubt the way in which to go on this cyber age. For a great deal more knowledge on online reputation management and corporate reputation management, Please visit us at http://removeripoffreports.net/

Make Making Money

Whenever you hear a business executive or politician use the term "American competitiveness," watch your wallet. Few terms in public discourse have gone so directly from obscurity to meaninglessness without any intervening period of coherence.

President Obama just appointed Jeffry Immelt, GE's CEO, to head his outside panel of economic advisors, replacing Paul Volcker. According to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, Immelt has "agreed to work through what makes our country more competitive."

In an opinion piece for the Washington Post announcing his acceptance, Immelt wrote "there is nothing inevitable about America's declining manufacturing competitiveness if we work together to reverse it."

But what's American "competitiveness" and how do you measure it? Here are some different definitions:

  • It's American exports. Okay, but the easiest way for American companies to increase their exports from the US is for their American-made products to become cheaper internationally. And for them to reduce the price of their American-made stuff they have to cut their costs of production in here. Their biggest cost is their payrolls. So it follows that the simplest way for them to become more "competitive" is to cut their payrolls -- either by substituting software and automated machinery for their US workers, or getting (or forcing) their US workers to accept wage and benefit cuts.

  • It's net exports. Another way to think about American "competitiveness" is the balance of trade -- how much we import from abroad versus how much they import from us. The easiest and most direct way to improve the trade balance is to coax the value of the dollar down relative to foreign currencies (the Fed's current strategy for flooding the economy with money could have this effect). The result is everything we make becomes cheaper to the rest of the world. But even if other nations were willing to let this happen (doubtful; we'd probably have a currency war instead as they tried to coax down the value of their currencies in response), we'd pay a high price. Everything the rest of the world makes would become more expensive for us.

  • It's the profits of American-based companies. In case you haven't noticed, the profits of American corporations are soaring. That's largely because sales from their foreign-based operations are booming (especially in China, Brazil, and India). It's also because they've cut their costs of production in the US (see the first item above). American-based companies have become global -- making and selling all over the world -- so their profitability has little or nothing to do with the number and quality of jobs here in the US. In fact, it may be inversely related.

  • It's the number and quality of American jobs. This is my preferred definition, but on this measure we're doing terribly badly. Most Americans are imprisoned in a terrible trade-off -- they can get a job, but only one that pays considerably less than the one they used to have, or they can face unemployment or insecure contract work. The only sure way to improve the quality of jobs over the long term is to build the productivity of American workers and the US overall, which means major investments in education, infrastructure, and basic R&D. But it's far from clear American corporations and their executives will pay the taxes needed to make these investments. And the only sure way to improve the number of jobs is to give the vast middle and working classes of America sufficient purchasing power to get the economy going again. But here again, it's far from clear American corporations and their executives will be willing to push for a more progressive tax code, along with wage subsidies, that would put more money into average workers' pockets.

It's politically important for President Obama, as for any president, to be available to American business, and to avoid the moniker of being "anti-business." But the president must not be seduced into believing -- and must not allow the public to be similarly seduced into thinking -- that the well-being of American business is synonymous with the well-being of Americans.

We're still catching up on sleep after leaving CES, but ASUS is tireless, winding up for another product release, something new it calls the Eee PC Sirocco. We have nothing to go by at this point other than the teaser image above, which promises this new product is going to be "making waves" when it is released. This metaphorical euphemism could mean anything from a revolutionary new architecture that will sweep across the industry to another netbook with some funny textures on it. If forced to bet we'd put more money on the latter than the former but, as we mentioned, we simply aren't in Vegas any more and so won't be engaging in such shenanigans.

personal finance money management

Intuit-owned Mint.com is heading to schools today with the launch of a free, online program designed to educate middle-school students about personal finance and financial management.

Mint has partnered with educational publisher Scholastic to develop materials that parents and teachers can use to teach children the ins and outs of personal finance management. The materials includes lesson plans as well as an interactive game, to teach children money management, budgeting and goals.

For example, the program teaches children the concept of compound interest with real-life math problems, and encourages children to set goals and budgets with their own current work opportunities (i.e. babysitting).

Mint says the curriculum will be expanded to 30,000 classrooms nationwide early next year. Considering the state of the economy and credit, teaching children financial literacy and sounds personal finance practices at an early edge is an incredibly important initiative. In terms of branding, this is a big win for Mint, which can start building awareness of its tools among students at an early age.

What do you expect of the morale in the workplace under this environment?

The morale in the workplace definitely sinks. The employees are unhappy and they do their best to sabotage the company.

The management has to cope with high turnover. The recruitment cost increases, and the profitability decreases.

The best company does not need so many policies to police the employees. The best company provide a trusting environment for the employees to work, and the management supports and grooms the employees instead of finding reasons to fire them.

The morale in the workplace is at all time high.

That is why high morale is a reflection of good management. The employees will reward company by going the extra mile.

Low morale is the concrete proof of bad management style. The management sees employees as problems instead of resources.

Whos Making Money

John Cole

You absolutely did say the essence of that, when the rape accusations against Assange came out last summer. Without missing a beat. And reiterated it thereafter. And if you don’t believe it, I’m sure your archives are more accessible to you than they are to me.

I have no idea why they are more accessible to me than you, but if you put “rape assange” in the search box you will see I dismissed the charges WHEN the Swiss dropped them, stating it is deeply troubling when charges of rape are tossed around, because rape is a serious thing.

The only other thing I said about it was the following:

You know what? Maybe he is a pervert and a rapist. But you don’t exactly have to be Alex Jones or Paul Watson or drinking grain and rain water to think this is a little sketchy. Especially the way it just sort of appeared after the military document dump, and now after the latest dump, the arrest warrant is issued. It is just getting too convenient (Ritter) that every time someone throws a fly in the ointment, this kind of thing happens. Maybe there is something in the personality type and it is all just a big coincidence. Or maybe not.

And I stand by that. You don’t exactly have to be a conspiracy theorist to note that every time someone speaks up, this sort of thing happens. And even then, I noted the possibility of his being a rapist and that maybe there is something in the personality type that makes people who are defiant (like Assange or Ritter) that also coincides with their being sexual deviants.

As to this bullshit:

I eagerly await a link to where you—similar to your hero Glennzilla—ever said anything along the lines of “Regardless of anyone’s opinions of Assange and Wikileaks, an accusation of rape is a serious matter to be resolved pursuant to the applicable law—and no one should EVER attack the accuser, or question her motives, any more than they should assume the guilt of the accused.”

Lo and behold, I linked to two pieces that SAID JUST FUCKING THAT. Here is the Amanda Marcotte piece I linked:

We can be grown-ups here. We can entertain the idea that Wikileaks is performing a valuable service while acknowledging the strong possibility that Julian Assange is himself an asshole who treats women like they’re objects he can exert his massive power issues on. We can criticize Interpol for treating these alleged sex crimes more seriously than they ever treat sex crimes and maintain sympathy for women who reportedly were quite afraid they had been exposed to unintended pregnancy or worse. Maybe we can even do one better than that, and accept that more than a few men who consider themselves liberals or even leftists—-or may even claim to be feminists—-still act like women’s concerns should be dismissed and our rights can be transgressed with ease. I’m not accusing Assange of anything, but I seriously think it’s silly to think the accusations couldn’t be credible.

And here is Feministe:

I’m not particularly interested in debating What Assange Did or Whether Assange Is A Rapist, and I’d appreciate it if we could steer clear of that in the comments section. Rather, I’m interested in pushing back on the primary media narrative about this case, which is that women lie and exaggerate about rape, and will call even the littlest thing — a broken condom! — rape if they’re permitted to under a too-liberal feminist legal system. In fact, there are lots of good reasons to support consent-based sexual assault laws, and to recognize that consent goes far beyond “yes you can put that in here now.” It’s a shame that the shoddy, sensationalist reporting on this case have muddied those waters.

You have now trotted out every single form of weak bullshit imaginable, and the facts and the archives have shot you down each and every time. You even got to throw in a weak shot at Greenwald.

Do you want to stop now, or keep digging?

bank foreclosure

A
coalition of seven major public pension systems, led by New York City
Comptroller John Liu, has asked the boards of four of the largest U.S.
banks to examine their mortgage and foreclosure practices.

In
a letter dated January 6, the pension fund coalition urged the Audit
Committees of Bank of America Corp, Citigroup Inc, JPMorgan Chase &
Co, and Wells Fargo L& Co to launch independent examinations of their loan modification, foreclosure, and securitization policies and procedures.

"This
will help to prevent future compliance failures and restore the
confidence of shareholders, regulators, legislators and mortgage
markets participants," the coalition said in the letter.

Bank representatives could not be reached for immediate comment on Sunday.

On
January 7, in a decision that could slow foreclosures nationwide,
Massachusetts' highest court voided the seizure of two homes by Wells
Fargo & Co and US Bancorp after the banks failed to show they held
the mortgages at the time they foreclosed.

That
sent fears through the market as investors worried that decision could
threaten lenders' ability to work through hundreds of thousands of
pending foreclosures.

The
Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts' unanimous decision upheld a
lower court ruling and was among the earliest cases to address the
validity of foreclosures done without proper documentation.

That
issue, including the use of "robo-signers" who approved foreclosure
documents without reviewing them, last year prompted an uproar that led
lenders such as Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Ally Financial Inc
to temporarily stop seizing homes.

Courts
in other U.S. states are considering similar cases, and all 50 state
attorneys general are examining whether lenders are forcing people out
of their homes improperly.

The
pension fund coalition represents more than $430 billion in pension
fund investments, including $5.7 billion invested in the four banks.

Liu
represents the five NYC pension funds. The coalition also includes the
Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds, the Illinois State Board
of Investment, the Illinois State Universities Retirement System, the
New York State Common Retirement Fund, the North Carolina Retirement
Systems, and the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund.

The
coalition called for the banks to report the findings of their
independent examinations in their 2011 proxy statements this spring.

At
the end of the last year, the coalition's combined holdings in each
bank included: 97.1 million Bank of America shares valued at $1.3
billion; 226.6 million Citigroup shares valued at $1.1 billion; 40.7
million JPMorgan Chase shares valued at $1.7 billion, and 50.6 million
Wells Fargo shares at $1.6 billion.

It's about
time public pension funds get involved and use their clout to pressure
banks to examine their loan modification, foreclosure, and
securitization policies and procedures. I'm not sure anything will come
out of this but the foreclosure crisis has sounded the alarm bell and
banks need to respond to make sure that measures are in place to prevent
this type of abuse from ever happening again.

Finally, I leave you with some thoughts from Graham Turner of GFC Economics, one of the best independent economic consultancy shops for institutional clients:

Check out this really depressing map (this link takes you to the full-sized image).

The text introducing the map: "Leading Democrats, such as Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) whose state was hit hard by the real estate downturn, have called on lenders to halt foreclosures. But the Obama administration says a nationwide delay could devastate the fragile real estate market in places like Florida."

Looking at Florida on that map, I'd say the devastation has already been wrought.

Meanwhile, Bank of America continues in its position as the most likely lender to fraudulently foreclose on borrowers. Here's the latest egregious story, from a few days ago.

In one of the more bizarre foreclosure cases, Bank of America is threatening to throw a West Hartford family out of their home even though the couple never missed a mortgage payment.

The largest bank in the United States earlier this month notified Shock Baitch and his wife Lisa (Friedman) Baitch that foreclosure action will start today – Christmas eve – unless the couple agrees to put their home up for a forced sale.

Why?

Because another unit of Bank of America erroneously reported to credit agencies that the family was seeking a loan modification, ruining their credit rating and as the result putting their mortgage into default.

All this is happening even though the bank – after admitting it erred and sent a letter of apology in September – handed this case to a special unit at Bank of America that is charged with dealing with severe customer issues. It promised  to notify the credit reporting agencies that the couple were not deadbeats, but were good credit risks.

“I have never seen a case like this,” said Manchester attorney Wendell Davis, whose office handles many foreclosures.

Before taking the case, Davis said he thoroughly checked Baitch’s records and found that all his and his wife’s allegations were accurate.

“They have never even been late on a mortgage payment,” said Davis this morning in an interview....

Baitch’s story began about a year ago when he and his wife wanted to refinance their home in order to pay for improvements and to consolidate their debts. Baitch is a firefighter.

They spoke to a BofA loan specialist and asked for the cheapest refinance option. The loan specialist tentatively put them into the “Making Home Affordable program,” which unbeknownst to the couple would signal to the credit world that they were in financial straits.

When the couple received a package of papers to sign, they decided to go with a conventional mortgage because they did not want to have to add escrow costs and home insurance to their mortgage payments, not because they were aware of the ramifications on the loan program.

But it was too late. Shortly after that, in April, Baitch’s wife (whose name is on the mortgage) received a letter from BofA telling her that the credit limit on one of her credit cards was reduced to $18,800 from $30,000. The two weren’t worried because they had plenty of credit available on other credit cards. Baitch said he just figured that the bank was tightening everyone’s credit.

It was only after his wife started receiving notifications from other creditors that several of her other accounts were being closed that the couple discovered what had happened.

Because of BoA's fraudulent reports to credit bureaus, the couple's credit has been ruined. Supposedly BoA is working on restoring the credit limits on their BoA accounts, but that doesn't fix their credit rating. That's a hassle for the couple, but the true nightmare is the foreclosure letter the couple received just before Christmas, a foreclosure proceeding that no one at BoA has been able to justify. Baitch describes the long trail of customer relations calls he's made, culminating at the top.

“I then spoke to Debbie Lambert from the Office of the CEO and President. Debbie advised me that, in fact, my account is still “under review” and has a “work out negotiator” assigned to the case. She could not explain why the letter of foreclosure was issued, but, did confirm that our status is that we are still in the loan modification process. A process we NEVER agreed to or ever entered and were PROMISED that it would be corrected!”

“So, in summary, BOA is threatening to proceed with foreclosure on a house that was NEVER late or in risk of default. No one at BOA can find where this letter came from, but admits, that somewhere in there system, some department at BOA thinks we are to be foreclosed on. This is just proof that BOA is far too large to be of any benefit to themselves or the consumer.”

Reading this story, and looking at that map of the extent of the crisis, might be enough to make the Geithner and Obama reconsider forcing a national halt on foreclosures. Letting the banksters steal it all isn't a policy solution.

managing your personal finance

Consumerist Budget Spreadsheet Balances Your Money, Encourages Your Nest Egg

The saving-savvy folks at The Consumerist blog have put together a template Excel spreadsheet for managing personal finances. It's the kind of thing you always say you're going to do, but they went ahead and did it for you, and it's free.

It's not a new thing, but Consumerist's budget spreadsheet, crafted during the days the site was one of our blog network brethren, has come back, after being lost to the vagaries of server maintenance. The site has instructions on setting it up, including tips on thinking through your monthly expenses and advice on how much you should plan on socking away for a rainy day, retirement, and other expenses.

Maybe you use Mint or another automated spending/saving tracker instead—but then again, maybe those tools are so automatic that you don't get a good look at your real money situation.

Best Mobile Personal Finance Tool?

Earlier this year we took a look at best money management web sites, but often, tracking money on-the-go is just as important. What's your favorite tool for managing your money on the go?

Whether you're using a mobile-optimized web site or an application specific to the iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and so on, we want to hear from you. What mobile money management tool makes it easy to manage your money when you're away from your computer?

Hive Five nominations take place in the comments, where you post your favorite tool for the job. We get hundreds of comments, so to make your nomination clear, please include it at the top of your comment like so: VOTE: Mobile Personal Finance Tool. Please don't include your vote in a reply to another commenter. Instead, make your vote and reply separate comments. If you don't follow this format, we may not count your vote. To prevent tampering with the results, votes from first-time commenters may not be counted. After you've made your nomination, let us know what makes it stand out from the competition.

About the Hive Five: The Hive Five feature series asks readers to answer the most frequently asked question we get: "Which tool is the best?" Once a week we'll put out a call for contenders looking for the best solution to a certain problem, then YOU tell us your favorite tools to get the job done. Every weekend, we'll report back with the top five recommendations and give you a chance to vote on which is best. For an example, check out last week's Five Best Resources for Free Games.
